History since 1871

More than 150 years of potato starch making in the Vysočina region.

  1. Potatoes and a bowl of potato starch

    1871

    Pelhřimov starch plant founded

    The Bohemian Moravian Highlands are a traditional area of potato growing and potato starch production. The first starch plants were built here.

  2. Post war

    Nationalisation, Amylon Praha

    After World War II the plant was nationalised and merged into the national enterprise Amylon Praha, which brought together the starch plants in Batelov, Pelhřimov, Želiv, Červená Řečice, Jindřichův Hradec, Nový Dvůr, Horažďovice, Krahulčí, Chýnov and other smaller starch plants and agricultural distilleries.

  3. 1953

    Jihočeské škrobárny Pelhřimov

    The national enterprise Jihočeské škrobárny Pelhřimov is established.

    1958

    Škrobárny Havlíčkův Brod

    Merger with Horácké škrobárny Havlíčkův Brod, Brněnské škrobárny and Slezské škrobárny. Production of dry potato starch, spirit, starch syrup, glucose and adhesives. Processing of modified starches begins for the food, textile, paper and other industries.

  5. Before privatisation

    6 starch plants and 19 distilleries

    The enterprise ran 6 starch plants and 19 agricultural distilleries with a capacity of 35,000 t of potatoes per campaign. The distilleries were privatised by direct sale.

  6. 1994

    Joint stock company founded

    On 1 January 1994 the joint stock company Škrobárny Pelhřimov was founded with plants in Chýnov, Batelov, Krahulčí, Černovice and Libáň. The Jindřichův Hradec and Nový Dvůr plants were returned in restitution. Fragmentation, small capacity and outdated machinery called for extensive modernisation.

  7. 2001 and 2003

    Investment in native starch

    Major investment in native starch lines, followed by continuous modernisation of native and modified starch lines.

  8. 2003

    Pelhřimov plant back in ownership

    The company regained ownership of the Pelhřimov plant, until then owned by the state.

    Further investment in production lines.

  10. Today

    Three plants, 70,000 t per campaign

    Potatoes are processed in two plants, Pelhřimov and Chýnov, with a capacity of 70,000 t per campaign. Modified starches in Chýnov and Batelov, glucose syrup in Pelhřimov.
